HOOVER, Ala. – Freshman
Alex Turner led the Purple Aces men’s golf team with a tie for 39
th as the Aces wrapped up their first contest of the spring on Tuesday.
Over three rounds of action, UE took 18
th place with a 936. Turner tied for 39
th place on the strength of a 227, including a team-low 74 in Monday’s opening round of play.
Rick Voyvodic finished seven strokes behind with a 234 as his final round of 79 clinched a tie for 69
th place. One shot behind him was
Parker Hensley, who carded a 235 en route to a tie for 72
nd.
Quinn Vilneff, who posted UE’s second-lowest average in the fall, finished with a 240 while
Will Knights rounded out the squad with a 252.
Auburn University improved in each round on its way to the team championship. The Tigers opened up with a 291 before registering a 288 and a 286 on its way to an 865. That score was atop the leaderboard, 11 strokes ahead of Vanderbilt. Georgia Southern took third place with an 880 while Winthrop was fourth with an 887, just ahead of Samford’s fifth-place total of 888.
Hunter Stewart led the Commodores with a 211, which was good for medalist honors. He finished ahead of Domonic Bozzelli (Auburn) and Drew Aimone (Samford), who tallied final scores of 213.
Evansville will be right back in action next week, traveling to Jacksonville, Fla. for the Don Benbow Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday.
