BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Alex Turner stands in a tie for 35
th place as the University of Evansville men’s golf team enters Sunday’s final round of play tied for 14
th place at the Hoosier Invitational.
Turner led the Aces once again with a 3-over 74 in the first round before posting a 75 to finish the day with a 149. Just two strokes behind him are teammates
Quinn Vilneff and
Rick Voyvodic. Both shot a 151 on day one as Vilneff registered a 2-over 73, which was the lowest round of the day for the Aces.
Parker Hensley carded a 155 while
Will Knights posted a 157 and is tied for 79
th.
Evansville sits in a tie with Western Illinois for 14
th place with each school shooting a 603. The Aces combined for a 297 in round one before posting a 306 in the second round of play.
Indiana dominated the opening day as they enter Sunday’s final round with a 10 shot lead over Illinois State. The Hoosiers notched the lowest round of the day to start (279) before finishing round two with a 282.
Illinois State is in second place with a 571 while Michigan (575), Miami (Ohio) (577 and IPFW (585) round out the top five teams.
David Mills of IU tied for the lowest round of the day as his 5-under 66 gives him a one stroke lead going into Sunday’s action. Mills registered a 136 and leads Tyler Gentilella of Illinois State by one shot. Brett McIntosh of the Wolverines is in third with a 138.
Eighteen more holes remain on Sunday as the action begins with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. CT at the IU Golf Course in Bloomington.
