EVANSVILLE, Ind. – A week after the women's team opened up the season, the University of Evansville men's golf team will take its turn, traveling to Normal, Ill. to take part in the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate.
 
Set for Sunday and Monday, the tournament will feature two rounds of play to open before wrapping up with 18 more holes on Monday.  The par for the Weibring Golf Club is 71 with the yardage standing at 6,915.
 
Included in the field are: Arkansas-Little Rock, Arkansas State, Bradley, Butler, Evansville, Illinois State, Illinois Wesleyan, Loyola, Missouri State, Northern Iowa, Oral Roberts, Purdue, Southern Illinois, SIU Edwardsville and Western Illinois.
 
Evansville returns a strong nucleus entering 2013, led by sophomore Alex Turner.  The Evansville native led the Aces with a 74.56 stroke average last season while posting four top five finishes.  He took top honors at the UE/Butler Challenge while posting a third place at the Benbow Invitational last spring.
 
Finishing last year on a roll was Quinn Vilneff as he wrapped up the season with three top six finishes in the final four events.  Highlighting that was a second at the UE/Butler Challenge and a sixth-place effort at the MVC Championship.
 
Playing strong throughout the championship, Vilneff was as his best in the final round of the season, posting a 68 en route to the strong finish.  Coupling that performance along with his academics, he was awarded the Elite 18 Award as he finished the tournament with the top GPA amongst the top 18 finishers.
 
The Purple Aces also welcome three freshmen to the team including: Jon Pick (Ottawa, Ontario), Landon Smith (Evansville, Ind.) and Brett Wolvert (Wilsonville, Ore.).
