EVANSVILLE, Ind. – One of the most thrilling matches of the young season saw the University of Evansville volleyball team rally from an 0-2 deficit to post a thrilling 3-2 win over Memphis on Saturday at the Carson Center.

Evansville (5-4) fell in the first two sets, but came back on fire, winning the final three sets over the Tigers (5-3). Ashley Ring led UE with 21 kills while Lauren Seyller, Rachel TenHoor and Emma Roberson each registered nine.

Memphis had the upper hand early on, jumping out to a 10-6 advantage. Viktorija Teivane notched three kills in that run. The Tigers extended their lead to 17-12 before UE made a run to get within two at 17-15. Lauren Seyller capped off the rally with a kill. Memphis used a timeout and the chance to regroup helped the immensely as they wrapped up the set on an 8-1 run to take a 25-16 win. Ashley Ring led UE with six kills on seven attempts in the frame.

It was Evansville that took the early 10-6 edge in the second set, forcing for Tiger errors and an ace by Stephanie Cerino. Memphis took over at that point, scoring 11 of the next 14 tallies to go up by a 17-13 margin. They forced three UE errors in a row over that run. Evansville did not relent, battling to get within two at 23-21 on an Emma Roberson kill, but the Tigers posted two of the last three to go up 2-0 in the match.

The Aces regrouped in the third set following a back-and-forth battle to start. Each point was tied until 8-8 when UE posted two in a row on kills by Roberson and Rachel TenHoor. Following a Tiger point, the Aces came right back in a stretch that saw Katie Klages post a kill off of a dig to go up 14-10.Â

Evansville's lead continued to grow as a pair of Ring kills helped push the advantage to 22-15 as Seyller wrapped up the rally with a kill. Â Memphis made it interesting down the stretch, scoring six in a row before getting within one at 24-23, but Ring came up big with the set-winning kill to push it to a fourth set.

After hanging on for the win in the third set, the Aces came out firing in the fourth, taking an 11-6 lead with two Ring kills starting the run. Memphis got within a point at 12-11 before Evansville slowly started to take control. Up 15-14, UE did not let the Tigers get any closer as a 6-0 run helped them advance the match into a fifth set with a 25-18 victory.

In the fifth, it was UE making a late push to take the win. With the score tied at 7-7, Evansville scored five in a row before the final of 15-11.
