Valparaiso Earns 3-1 Win Over Volleyball

EVANSVILLE, Ind. –
In the final game of its home tournament, the University of Evansville volleyball team fell to Valparaiso by a 3-1 final at the Carson Center on Saturday evening.
 
Evansville, along with Memphis and Valparaiso each finished the weekend 2-1 to tie for the tournament win.  Ashley Ring led UE with 13 kills while Rachel TenHoor posted nine.  Sarah Dooms led everyone with 15 kills in the nightcap while Kelsey Victor tallied 14.
 
Valparaiso controlled game one from start to finish as Sarah Dooms tallied five kills in the set. 
The Crusaders opened up on a 4-1 stretch and continued to pad their advantage from there.  Evansville did rally to get within a pair at 10-8 on a Lauren Seyller kill, but three in a row helped Valpo pick up a 25-17 win to start the match.
 
Evansville had a much better showing in the second game, opening up on a 3-1 run.  Several ties ensued in the middle of the set, but the turning point came with the scored tied at 13-13.  Consecutive kills by Ring and Seyller gave the Aces a lead they would not relinquish as they knotted up the game with a 25-19 win.
 
After falling in the second set, the Crusaders came out strong in game three.  Hitting .343 in the game, Valpo took a 25-18 win.  With the score tied at 6-6, the game-changing moment came as the scored 10 in a row.  They went up by as many as 12 at 21-9 before Evansville made it interesting down the stretch.  The Aces got within five at 22-17 before Valparaiso wrapped up the set to take a 2-1 lead.
 
The final game saw Valparaiso start out on a 7-1 stretch before going up 14-3.  They finished off the match at 25-18 in a dominating performance to earn the win.
 
UE finished its home-opening weekend at 2-1 to stand at 5-5 on the season.  They are back on the road on Tuesday at Belmont and open Missouri Valley Conference play next weekend at Illinois State and Indiana State.
