EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Following a successful 2-1 beginning to its season, the Purple Aces volleyball team will travel to UT-Martin for a match on Tuesday evening beginning at 6:30 p.m.
In its opening tournament, the Aces were led by All-Tournament honoree
Meaghan Holmes. Entering 2013, Holmes' top offensive effort was eight kills, but in three matches over the weekend, she beat that total every time. She notched nine in the opening two rounds before posting ten in the match on Saturday at North Carolina Central.
Another great sign for UE was that it was a different offensive weapon showing its hand in each match. In the opener on Friday against Murray State, it was
Rachel TenHoor hitting .571 en route to 13 kills. Match two on Saturday versus Hampton saw
Ashley Ring tally 22 kills before the finale saw sophomore
Stephanie Cerino set a career-high of 12 kills.
The Aces will look to remain undefeated in true road contests as they take on the Skyhawks, who are also 2-1 this year. In last season's meeting at the Carson Center, the Aces swept UTM by a 3-0 final.
To begin their 2013 campaign, UT-Martin played in a tournament in Peoria, Ill. hosted by Bradley. They began the year with a 3-0 sweep over Maryland Eastern Shore before falling to Western Illinois. They rebounded on Saturday evening with a 3-1 win over the host Braves.
Following their trip to Martin, Tenn., Evansville will head to Oxford, Ohio on Friday to take part in the Miami (Ohio) Tournament where they will take on the host RedHawks and Northern Kentucky.
