Vilneff Shoots Under Par On Opening Day At CSU

DAY ONE RESULTS

AURORA, Ohio –
Senior Quinn Vilneff stands at one under par as the University of Evansville men's golf team is in fifth place going into the final round of the Cleveland State Invitational at Barrington Country Club.
 
Vilneff is tied for 12th place overall with his 2-round score of 143.  He opened the day shooting a 2-under 70 before wrapping up the second round with a 73 to stand at 1-under par going into Tuesday's final round.
 
Three Purple Aces stand in a tie for 30th place with a 148.  Alex Turner, Rick Voyvodic and Will Knights each tied for the spot with their efforts on Monday.  Turner carded a 1-under 71 to open the day before finishing with a 77.  Knights did the exact opposite, posting a 77 in round one before shooting a 71.  Voyvodic had rounds of 73 and 75 to open up the contest.
 
Parker Hensley is just two spots behind the trio with his 150.  Hensley is tied for 34th place after shooting a 74 and a 76.  Freshman Brett Wolvert is in the tournament as an individual and is tied for 52nd as his efforts of 77 and 78 gave him a 155 for the day.
 
Cincinnati has a lead of nine strokes following two out of three rounds.  The Bearcats shot a tournament low 275 in round two to finish the day with a 556.  Detroit is in second place with a 565.  They have a 10-shot lead over Cleveland State.  Loyola stands in fourth with a 578 while Evansville rounds out the top five with a 583.
 
A trio of players sit atop the leaderboard going into the final 18 holes of action.  Jared Howard (Cincinnati), Aaron Knutson (Detroit) and Nick Dennis (Loyola) each shot a 137 over the two rounds on Monday.  Dennis shot the lowest round of the day as his 6-under 66 put him in a tie for the lead.
 
Tuesday's play gets underway with a  shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. ET.
