Box Score Box Score (PDF)EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Ashley Ring posted a team-high 13 kills, but Indiana State hit .337 as a team to take a 3-0 win over the Purple Aces volleyball team on Saturday evening at the Carson Center.

Ring led the way with 13 kills for Evansville (7-16, 3-8 MVC) while Genesis Miranda checked in with 10. Lorena Marquez had a team-high 22 assists while Ring led the way with 9 digs.

Bree Spangler led the Sycamores (15-8, 7-4 MVC) with 14 kills while Cassandra Willis had 11 and Sarah Peterson notched 10.

Neither team was able to pull away early in the opening set. Indiana State went up by a 6-4 margin before the Aces scored two in a row to tie it back up. Evansville opened up a 13-11 lead before going up three at 16-13 on a Cathy Schreiber kill. That is when Indiana State turned the tables. They reeled off the next five points as Taylor Reckards notched an ace.

With the Sycamores up 18-16, Ring ended the rally with another kill as UE fought back to tie it up at 18-18. The rally for the Sycamores kept going. With the score knotted up at 20-20, ISU posted the last five as Bree Spangler served them to a 25-20 win.

The opening three points were tied up in game two before Indiana State made their run. Cassandra Willis notched two kills in a run that saw ISU score four in a row to take a 7-3 lead. Schreiber had a strong kill to end the run as UE fought back to tie it up at 9-9.Â

Indiana State regained control with a run that saw them go up 17-13 as they forced a pair of UE errors. The lead grew to as many as five at 19-14 before UE made their way back. Schreiber, Ring and Meaghan Holmes posted kills as the Aces rallied to get within one at 22-21. The Sycamores were able to regroup as a Kynedi Nalls kill put ISU up 2-0 with a 25-21 win.

Evansville regrouped after the break and came out scoring the first two points as Ring and Stephanie Cerino posted kills. Down 4-2, Indiana State made their first run of the frame, scoring four in a row to take a 6-4 lead. At that point, the service aces started piling up for UE as Cerino notched two and Ring posted one as the Aces rallied back to take a 9-7 advantage.

The advantage for the Purple Aces grew to four at 16-10 as Cerino posted her fifth kill of the night before Ring had a solo block. As quick as the Aces took the advantage, the Sycamores fought back. Three in a row saw them get within one before they rallied to cut the gap to 18-17.

Not only did Spengler help the Sycamores cut the gap, but two kills helped them retake a 21-20 advantage as they overcame the mid-game deficit. Their run continued as they posted eight of the last nine points to clinch the match with a 25-21 win.

Next weekend, the Aces are back on the road, traveling to Loyola and Bradley. UE faces the Ramblers on Friday before heading to Peoria to take on the Braves the next night. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
