EVANSVILLE, Ind. – For the second time this season, the Purple Aces volleyball team has been honored by the Missouri Valley Conference with its weekly awards. Today,
Ashley Ring was named the Player of the Week while
Genesis Miranda took Freshman of the Week honors.
The duo played a huge role in the University of Evansville winning a pair of weekend matches. On Friday, the Aces made NCAA history in a 3-0 win over Bradley. Evansville accumulated 90 points in three sets, which ranks as the third-most in the NCAA since they enacted the 25 point scoring in 2008.
Saturday saw the Aces take a 3-1 win over Loyola to complete the perfect weekend.
Ashely Ring posted a total of 42 kills over the weekend, an average of 6.00 per set. She did that while hitting an accurate .321. She was also second on the team with 26 digs (3.71/set) while posting seven blocks and adding an ace. An 18-kill effort began the week for Ring as she hit .311 against Bradley to go along with 13 digs.
Her defense was stellar, finishing the night with six blocks. Her top effort of the year came on Saturday against Loyola as she notched 24 kills on 61 attempts, hitting .328. Defensively, she was stellar again with 13 digs.
Equally impressive for Evansville was freshman Genesis Miranda. Miranda finished with 33 kills (4.71/set) along with 20 digs, six blocks and a team-high three service aces. Miranda's weekend started as she tied Ashley Ring for the team lead with 18 kills against Bradley.
She hit a team-best .333 while registering 13 digs and six blocks. Her 18 kills tied her season-high mark, which she has done twice before. In Saturday's 3-1 win over Loyola, Miranda was second on the team with 15 kills. She also tied her career-best mark with 15 digs.
This weekend, the Aces take to the road for their annual swing through Iowa. On Friday, UE faces Northern Iowa before traveling to Drake on Saturday. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
