rd seeded University of Evansville (6-11-1) men's soccer team lost 1-0 to the #6 Bradley Braves in the Missouri Valley Conference Quarterfinals on Wednesday night.
Evansville's last shot, a blast from junior forward
Nate Opperman with one second left, sailed high from the top of the 18 yard box and preserved the 1-0 win for the Braves.
Bradley scored the lone goal of the match in the 11
th minute. Christian Okeke and Richard Olson combined on a pair of passes for Jason Lesch. The cross was headed by Lesch into the right corner of the net for the one goal advantage. This was the first goal for Lesch this season.
Evansville almost tied the match two minutes later but a shot from senior forward
Dylan Terry went wide.
UE took three more shots (none on goal) in the first half as Bradley maintained the 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Purple Aces almost tied the match again in the 47
th minute but a shot by Opperman was saved by Bradley goalkeeper Logan Ketterer.
Evansville would outshoot the Braves 13-11 in the second half, including three shots in a minute and 19 second span. In the 71
st minute, Ketterer made a save on a Terry shot. 14 seconds later, junior midfielder
Faik Hajderovic took a corner kick but a header from freshman midfielder
Ian McGrath went right. Then less than a minute after that, Hajderovic had a shot that was saved by Ketterer, who notched seven saves on the night.
Still trailing 1-0, Aces senior defender
Patrick Hodges nearly tied the match but his shot in the 76
th minute was again saved by Ketterer.
The final UE shot of the night from Opperman took place with just one second remaining, a blast from the top of the 18 yard box that moved high over the crossbar.
The loss eliminates Evansville from the MVC Tournament and ends their season.
Hajderovic had a team-high four shots for UE. Terry also had three shots taken in the match.
