SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – Three University of Evansville men soccer players were named Missouri Valley Conference Scholar Athletes for the 2014 season. Senior forward

Nick Schroeder all were honored for their play on and off the field this year.
"A trademark of this group has been a commitment to excellence on the field and in the classroom," said UE head coach Mike Jacobs. "Each of the three members of our team recognized for academic achievement are clearly worthy of these honors."
Macias has a 3.376 cumulative grade point average and is majoring in finance. He was named to the Missouri Valley Conference Second Team in 2014. He was tied for the team lead with six goals this season and also assisted on two goals. His 14 points were second most on the team. Macias took 33 shots, which were second most of any Ace this season. He also had 15 shots on goal leading all Evansville players in the statistic. Macias ended the year with one game winning goal, which came in a contest vs. Belmont earlier this season.
Schafer has earned a 3.900 cumulative grade point average and is majoring in mechanical engineering. Schafer is one of only six student athletes to have a 3.90 GPA or higher and be named a MVC Men's Soccer Scholar Athlete this season. This is the second consecutive year that Schafer has been named an MVC First Team Scholar Athlete. He is the Male Recipient of the Heritage Federal Credit Union Scholarship bestowed at the Student-Athlete Academic Honors Breakfast. Schafer scored two goals this season including a game-winner vs. Loyola on Senior Day in the 83
rd minute. He totaled three assists, third most on the Aces this season. Schafer's seven points were fifth most on the team this year.
Schroeder achieved a 3.954 cumulative grade point average and is majoring in pre-physical therapy. He, like Schafer, is one of only six MVC men's soccer student athletes to be named a Scholar Athlete this season. This is the second time Schroeder has received this award including 2012 when he was also a MVC First Team Scholar Athlete. He played in 16 games this year for the Purple Aces. Schroeder scored two goals this season, including one game-winner vs. Mercer. He also had one assist and five points this year. Schroeder totaled seven shots, five on goal this fall.
