Aces four game win streak ends with loss at IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Evansville women's basketball team (5-5) saw their season-high four game winning streak come to an end with a 62-50 loss at IUPUI on Sunday afternoon.

Guard Kat Taylor scored a team-high 16 points. The senior came off the bench, going 5-for-7 from the floor and 4-for-6 on threes, in the Aces' first defeat since Nov. 29.

IUPUI went on a 6-0 run to begin the game and never let Evansville comeback to tie or take the lead. The Jaguars built a nine point advantage but a layup from forward Sasha Robinson and a pair of free throws by guard Kenyia Johnson pulled UE within five, 14-9.

Shortly after that, senior forward Mallory Ladd committed her second foul and was relegated to the bench until the final minute of the first half.

IUPUI pushed further ahead in Ladd's absence by scoring seven consecutive points. Down 21-9, Evansville responded by scoring the next eight straight points. A layup from guard Khristian Hart, two free throws from guard Laura Friday and Taylor, then a lay-in from guard Sara Dickey brought UE within four.

The Jaguars rallied to bring the lead back to double-digits but Evansville scored the final four points of the half to trail 28-21 at the break.

The Jaguars shot 47.8% in the opening stanza but committed 12 turnovers in the process. UE boasted seven scorers in the first half.

With Ladd back on the floor, UE stormed back from another double-digit deficit in the second half. Ladd sunk a three and made a lay-up to make the score 42-36 at the 13:49 mark.

Evansville was unable to bring the deficit closer than six during the remainder of the second half in the 62-50 loss.

Johnson scored nine points in the game for UE. Dickey ended the night with eight points. Robinson grabbed a team-high six rebounds in the contest.

Evansville will look to finish the non-conference slate with a win when they play at nationally ranked Louisville on December 29. The tip is set for 7:00 p.m. at the KFC YUM! Center in Louisville, Ky.

UE's next home game will be on January 8, 2015 with a 7:00 p.m. tip against Loyola of the Missouri Valley Conference.
