EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville men's golf team defeated crosstown rivals USI by a 10-5 score following Sunday's action in the UE/USI Challenge Cup at Oak Meadow Country Club.
Coupled with yesterday's tie score, the Aces came out with a 10-5 victory following singles duels on Sunday. UE was victorious in seven out of ten matchups on Sunday while tying once and falling in two decisions.
Quinn Vilneff shot a 73 to get the Aces going on the right track, defeating Jordon Wildt, who carded an 81.
Will Knights earned a point with his victory over Zack Thomas. Knights posted a 78 while Thomas finished the day with an 80.
Rick Voyvodic registered a 77 as he edged Grant Saylor by one stroke.
Juan Acosta was victorious in his matchup, defeating Trey Knight by seven strokes, 81-88. A pair of freshmen got the job done for Evansville, beginning with
Jon Pick. He defeated Nolan Ballard by two shots, 83-85.
Brett Wolvert carded an 80 as he defeated Tanner Mandel, who recorded an 82.
A.J. Naas also won a close decision. His 90 was just enough to defeat Addison Aubry, who had a 91. Parker Hensely dueled against David Janney with each shooting a 79.
The two points for USI came from Logan Osborne and Alex Wade. Osborne shot a 73 to defeat
Alex Turner. Turner finished the day with a 75. Wade's 80 was enough to top
Craig Niemeier, who finished Sunday's play with an 85.
Following a quick start to the spring, the Aces will have a weekend off before returning to action. Next up for Evansville is a trip to Peoria, Ill. for the Bradley Invitational. Set for April 5-6, the tournament will be played at Weaver Ridge Golf Club in Peoria.
