In just a few short days the University of Evansville men's and women's golf teams make the long journey to Jacksonville, Florida for the first tournament of the spring season! Both teams have worked extremely hard during the off-season, which began in late October. By using the indoor practice facility at the Armory, weightlifting twice a week, and working with Coach Jim Hamilton, the teams are very excited to travel down to sunny Jacksonville to see how we stand and check out our progress!
When asked what he is looking forward to the most about the first trip of the spring season to Florida (aside from the warm weather), Coach Hamilton stated, "Since our teams have practiced so hard in the winter, I look forward to seeing their results from their solid practicing and also what we need to do to be ready for the MVC in two months. Both teams had outstanding fall seasons and we want to continue our exceptional play in the spring."
With much packing to be done before we load up our vans to the brim, both teams will participate in the Don Benbow Invitational at the Jacksonville Beach Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday (March 10-11) for our debut. The teams' assistant coach, Mike Hoffman, is also looking forward to seeing some old friends and also cannot wait to be in the warm climate. For our practice round (Sunday) and the tournament Monday and Tuesday, the high temperature is predicted to be in the mid-70's with only a slight chance of rain. We welcome the warmth after the arduous winter, which has made it exceedingly difficult to practice outdoors.
More information will follow, and we hope that you will follow our progress at Gopurpleaces.com!
