Aces Women Tied for 6th at MVC Championship

Round One Results

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. –
Following 18 out of 54 holes of play, the University of Evansville women's golf team is in a tie for 6th place at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship at Panther Creek Country Club in Springfield, Ill.
 
Pacing the Purple Aces in the opening round was sophomore Paige Crafton.  Her 3-over round of 75 put her in a tie for 14th place with 36 holes remaining.  She finished the day five strokes off of the lead.
 
Two UE players are tied for 20th as Kayla Katterhenry and Sydney Skiles fired rounds of 76.  The duo is one shot off of Crafton's 75.  Rounding out the squad was Cathy Doyle and Maggie Camp.  Each completed Sunday's round with scores of 78. 
 
Bradley had an exceptional day, shooting a school record 293 on Sunday.  The Braves have three of the top seven golfers entering round two.  Despite the record-setting day, the top four teams are separated by just four strokes.
 
Just three off of Bradley is Indiana State.  The Sycamores have three of the top 14 individuals and finished the day with a 296.  Wichita State and Illinois State are just behind with equal rounds of 297.  Rounding out the top five is Southern Illinois.  The Salukis are just seven shots behind with a 300.
 
Evansville finds itself in a tie for 6th place with Missouri State and Drake.  All three institutions finished Sunday with a 305.  UNI checks in at 9th place (307) while Loyola is in tenth (311). 
 
For the first time in MVC Championship history, two players posted sub-70 rounds.  Danielle Lemek of Bradley and McCall Christopher from Indiana State sit atop the leaderboard with rounds of 69.  Both finished the day three shots under par.  Sarah Boss from UNI is in third place on her own with a 70 while multiple players are tied for 4th with even rounds of 72. 
 
The teams get right back to action on Monday with one round before completing the tournament with 18 holes of action on Tuesday.
