ST. LOUIS – A pair of spring victories coupled with two of the top three golfers in the league have resulted in the University of Evansville men's golf team being picked to finish third in the upcoming Missouri Valley Conference Championship.
Evansville's preseason slotting is the highest in program history. The tournament is slated for April 28 and 29 at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill. Illinois State is playing host to the tournament.
The Purple Aces feature the No. 2 and 3 ranked golfers in the conference according to stroke average. Sophomore
Alex Turner enters the event with the second-lowest stroke average in the league with a 72.35. Defending Elite 18 award winner
Quinn Vilneff is third with a 72.83. Both are just percentage points behind Louis Cohen Boyer of Wichita State, who had a 72.28 for the season.
UE is the only school to have three players ranked in the top ten as senior
Parker Hensley finished the season with a 74.10 average over his 29 rounds of play and was tenth in the Valley.
In 2011 and 2012, the Aces were selected to finish in the top five. The Aces were picked to finish 5
th in 2011 and 4
th in 2012.
Wichita State was picked to win the league in a vote by the nine coaches. The Shockers received seven out of nine first place votes. Illinois State was chosen second and received a pair of top votes. The tournament gets underway on Monday with 36 holes of play.
