The Chippewa offense was strong from the get-go, hitting .357 in the first round on its way to a 25-18 win. Angelique White posted five kills in eight attempts, hitting .625. Ashley Ring matched her effort with five kills. Evansville had the early momentum, taking a 3-0 lead before CMU took its first advantage at 7-6 on a service ace.
Â
With the score tied at 11-11, the Chippewas made their run, going on a 6-2 run to go up 17-13. Later, it was White who had the clincher, taking a Danielle Thompson set and nailing down her fifth kill of the frame.
Â
Another late run proved to be the difference in the second game, but it was Evansville strong out of the gate, going up 3-1. Down 7-5, CMU came back to tie it up at 8-8 before taking their first lead at 12-11. The Aces battled the Chippewas to a 16-16 tie, but a game-ending 9-3 run saw CMU take a 2-0 edge.Â
Â
Evansville rebounded in the third frame as Cerino had four kills in what would be a 25-21 Evansville win. In the first two games, UE had the hot start, but this time, it was CMU taking off early, scoring three out of the first four points before finding itself up 8-6 on an Aces error.Â
Â
Following a CMU service error, the Aces scored three in a row as Cerino capped off the rally. The Aces never relinquished the lead, extending the advantage to as many as four points with the 25-21 final.
Â
Game four saw the Chippewas hold a lead throughout most of the contest. A Jordan Bueter kill followed by a UE error gave CMU a 12-8 edge. The Aces did their best to close in over the remainder of the game, getting within one point on several occasions, but Central Michigan held off those attempts to finish with a 25-21 win.
