Evansville, Ind. – Evansville's duo of
Ashley Ring and
Genesis Miranda combined for 35 kills as the Purple Aces volleyball team rallied for a 3-1 victory over DePaul on Saturday afternoon at the Carson Center.

Ring led everyone with 18 kills while Miranda finished with 17. The pair each had outstanding hitting efforts, posting finals of .429 and .387, respectively. Freshman
Cathy Schreiber had the best game of her young career, notching a career-best 14 kills. Frosh Grace Carter tallied 49 assists and 8 digs for Evansville (3-7).

Three Blue Demons (2-6) finished in double figures in kills, led by Myah Reed with 14. Saige Gallop posted 13.

As a team, the Aces played extremely well in the first set, but a late run saw DePaul come back to take a 26-24 win. The Aces hit an impressive .370 while DePaul finished at .289. The Blue Demons were sharp at the start, jumping out to a 5-1 advantage before the Aces came back to tie it up for the first time at 11-11.

Evansville continued to play well through the middle part of the set, taking an 18-15 lead on one of Ashley Ring's 8 first-game kills. DePaul came right back as a Colleen Smith tally knotted the score at 19-all.  Both teams had chances down the stretch as a Ring kill gave UE match point at 24-23, but the Blue Demons came back and took advantage of a pair of Evansville errors to take a 26-24 win.

The Aces played even better in the second frame and were rewarded for their efforts with a 25-21 win. DePaul came out of the gates hot once again, jumping out to a 7-4 lead before Evansville scored six in a row to take a 10-7 advantage. Genesis Miranda had a pair of kills in the run.Â

That rally was all the Aces needed as they never gave up the lead over the remainder of the game. Schreiber had seven kills in the set as the Aces finished the game hitting .429 while she had seven kills in nine attempts.

Game three saw the Aces match the enthusiasm from the second as they took a 25-17 win to take a 2-1 series lead. UE hit .200, but the defense held DePaul to just .028.Â
Grace Carter was the star of the set, posting 10 assists and 7 digs. Early on, it was a close battle as the teams registered nine ties leading to a 14-14 score.Â

At that point, Evansville took over, finishing on an 11-3 rally to take a 25-17 win. Schreiber served UE to a 9-0 run while Stephanie Cerino posted two kills in the run.

In the fourth frame, the Aces played one of their most dominant sets of the season, rolling past DePaul by a 25-14 final. UE took a 7-2 advantage at the start and never looked back. Evansville hit an unbelievable .636 as Miranda tallied 8 kills.

Tonight, the Aces finish up their home tournament against IUPUI beginning at 6:30 p.m.
