HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Three University of Evansville volleyball players posted double-digit kills, but Jenna Ruble swatted home 20 as Northern Kentucky held off a UE rally to take a 3-2 win on Tuesday evening.

Both offenses were in gear on Tuesday with freshman
Cathy Schreiber leading the way for the Purple Aces (4-8). She posted a career-best 16 kills while hitting .448. She also tallied three blocks. Fellow frosh
Genesis Miranda checked in with 15 kills while
Ashley Ring had 14. Â Ring also posted 22 digs.Â

On defense, it was
Kim Deprez pacing everyone with 35 digs while
Grace Carter posted a team-high 50 assists for UE.

Four Norse (7-3) players registered double-figure kills, led by Ruble's 20. Keely Creamer finished with 15 while Jayden Julian had 13. NKU also finished the night hitting .237 while UE hit .178 in the match.

Game one set the tone for the night as the teams battled back and forth before Evansville pulled away late for a 25-22 win. Fifteen ties led to a 21-21 score before Evansville was able to score the next two as Schreiber and Ring recorded kills. After NKU scored to make it a 23-22 game, another Ring kill, combined with a Northern Kentucky error, sealed the win.

The Norse regrouped to pull off wins in the second and third sets. Back-and-forth play continued in the early-going before Northern Kentucky utilized a 4-0 run to take a 19-15 lead in the second stanza. With the home team taking its largest lead of the game, Miranda spearheaded a 4-0 UE spurt as the Aces tied it up at 19-19.

With the score knotted at 21-21, NKU made its move, reeling off the final four tallies as Julian capped off the set with a kill to take a 25-21 victory.

In the third frame, Northern Kentucky took a 7-3 lead and never looked back. The Norse led by as many as 12 points at 22-10 before finishing with a 25-14 win. NKU hit an unbelievable .424 in the frame while Megan Wanstrath led the way with five kills.

Facing a 2-1 deficit, the Aces played their best game in the fourth, taking an 8-3 early advantage before hanging on for a 25-20 win. Four Ring kills set an early tone, but the Norse showed some fight. Down as many as seven points, NKU cut UE's edge to just three points at 23-20 before
Meaghan Holmes and Ring ended the rally with the clinchers. UE hit .300 in the set.

In game five, it was a late run that saw Northern Kentucky clinch the match. After going down 2-0, Evansville came right back to tie the game at 3-3. The next six points were tied, leading to a 9-9 score. That is where the Norse took over, recording the final six points to take the match on the strength of a 15-9 victory.
