Pahud and Gray Lead UE Men at Cleveland State

Day One Results

AURORA, Ohio –
True freshman Tyler Gray fired a 3-under 69 in the opening round of play as the University of Evansville men's golf team sits in seventh place entering the final day of the Cleveland State Invitational at Barrington Country Club.
 
Gray sat atop the leaderboard after his opening round before carding a 77 in the second round.  He enters the final day in a tie for 13th place with a 146. 
 
Leading the Purple Aces is Wil Pahud.  He began the day with a 75 before firing off his low round of the season – a 2-under 70 – to go into the final round in a tie for 10th place.  His opening day total came in at a 145.
 
Jon Pick finished the day third on the Aces squad.  Pick recorded a 1-under 71 to open the day before shooting a 76 to stand in a tie for 17th place with a 147.  Next up for UE was Alex Turner.  The Evansville native carded rounds of 78 and 74 to sit in a tie for 43rd with a 152.  Rounding out the team was Will Knights.  He began the day with an 84 before improving by eight strokes to finish Monday with a 160. 
 
Rick Voyvodic traveled as an individual and completed the first two rounds in a tie for 43rd place with a 152.  He was stellar in the opening trip around the course, posting a 1-under 71.
 
A crowded leaderboard saw the top three teams separated by just two strokes following Monday's pair of rounds.  Appalachian State leads the way with a 579 with Youngstown State in second with a 580 and Wright State sitting in third with a 581. Evansville is within striking distance as the team is in 7th place with a 589.  The Aces are just a shot behind the duo of Robert Morris and Oakland, who had a 588.
 
Two players lead the individuals as Andrew Furr (Appalachian State) and Nickolas Scott (Wright State) are tied for the top spot with a 141.  They are one shot ahead of a third-place tie.
 
Tomorrow, one more round of 18 will decide the tournament.
