NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The University of Evansville men's soccer team (2-11) suffered a 4-2 road loss at Lipscomb University (5-8-1) on Tuesday night. The Purple Aces held a 2-1 lead just 19 minutes into the match, but the Bisons scored the final three goals of the night for the victory.
"We responded well in the first half to the goal we conceded early," said Evansville head men's soccer coach
Marshall Ray. "Nate (Opperman) and Desmond (Dolphy) both had goals created by their individual effort to push us into the lead. We had two back-to-back chances to put us up 3-1 but did not convert. We had our chance to put the game away and missed it. We gave up the fourth goal chasing the game looking for the equalizer. The guys battled until the final whistle."
Lipscomb went ahead with a goal in the fifth minute.
Down 1-0, UE answered back with a 13
th minute score from senior forward
Nate Opperman. Making his first career start, sophomore defender
Cameron Gilreath found Opperman who dribbled up the left wing and scored in the upper corner. Opperman's second goal of the season evened up the match at one.
Evansville then took their first lead in the 19
th minute when sophomore forward
Desmond Dolphy seized control of a loose ball in front and deposited it for his first goal of the year.
Trailing 2-1, Lipscomb netted the equalizer in the 49
th minute and the go-ahead goal in the 69
th minute. The Bisons scored one final time in the 85
th minute for the 4-1 victory.
Opperman and senior forward
Mark Anthony Gonzalez took a team-high two shots each.
The defeat is the eighth consecutive loss for Evansville.
The Aces return home to host Missouri State and Indiana Youth Soccer Night on Saturday, Oct. 24. All children who wear their youth jersey to the match will receive free admission. The match will be held at Arad McCutchan Stadium and begin at 7:00 p.m.
