LITTLE ROCK, Ark. –
The University of Evansville baseball team (2-1) swept both games of a road doubleheader at Arkansas – Little Rock on Saturday with a 7-2 win in the opener and a 16-3 mercy rule shortened victory in game two. Outfielder Josh Jyawook hit a grand slam and recorded eight total RBIs in the pair of wins. Starting pitchers Matt Rodgers and Brodie Harkness combined to throw 11.0 innings without yielding a run in the series victory.

"Coming off a tough loss last night, it was a whole team effort today," said Evansville head coach Wes Carroll. "It started on the mound with Rodgers and Harkness. They gave us quality outings and really did set the tone for the offense to be loose and put up big numbers."

The Aces never trailed on Saturday staking Rodgers to an early 5-0 lead in the opener. UE scored two runs in the first inning on a single from outfielder Kevin Kaczmarski. Evansville tacked on three additional runs in the next inning with a run producing single from infielder Boomer Synek and another two-run single by Kaczmarski.

The 5-0 Aces advantage lasted until the fifth when UALR plated two unearned runs. Ahead by three, Evansville scored twice more in the seventh on a Jyawook single to create a 7-2 lead.

Rodgers(1-0)  threw 5.0 innings, yielding two unearned runs in the win. In his Aces debut, reliever Patrick Schnieders tossed 4.0 scoreless innings of one-hit ball for the save. Kaczmarski finished the contest 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Jyawook also added two hits, two runs, and two RBIs in the series-tying win.

Game two began with another Evansville lead. After the first two batters were retired in the second, the Aces strung together five runs on six consecutive hits. UE padded their 5-0 lead with another three runs in the next inning and one more in the fifth.

Down by nine, UALR rallied for three unearned runs in the fifth, only to see UE score the last nine runs of the game. Jyawook's grand slam in the sixth inning propelled Evansville to a 16-3 lead.

Harkness (1-0) pitched 6.0 innings in his collegiate debut, allowing three runs (none earned) for the victory. Reliever Ryan Brady pitched a scoreless seventh to complete the mercy rule win, double header sweep and clinch the series win. Jyawook was 2-for-5 in the weekend finale with a career-high six RBIs. Outfielder Jarod Perry was also 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and three RBIs.

UE will now play a weekend series at Western Kentucky beginning on Feb. 20.
