CARBONDALE, Ill. – Eight members of the University of Evansville women's swimming and diving team earned All-Conference honors by the Missouri Valley Conference.
Four were named to the First Team while four more garnered an Honorable Mention.
Taking first team honors were Danielle Freeman, Sam Montgomery, Abby Smith and Michelle Tipton. Pacing the way for their honor was a victory in the 200 free relay by the four first-teamers. They took top honors in the event with a new conference record of 1:33.06. They finished 0.33 ahead of their nearest competition.
Freeman also took top honors in the 100 fly with a 55.63 (a new school record) before joining Tipton, Maja Magnusson and Jess Hildebrand in a UE mark in the 800 free relay at 7:35.42. She teamed with Tipton, Montgomery and Smith yet again in the 400 free relay with a record time of 3:23.95.
Tipton also had some stellar times on her own. She set the school mark in the 200 free with a time of 1:48.35 while setting the record in the 100 free with an even time of 50.00
Honorable Mention honors went to Courtney Coverdale, Michaela Kent, Mackenzine Powell and Stephanie Tran. NCAA Zones participant Coverdale set her career mark with a 289.35 at the MVC's on her way to the honor in the 1M event. Tran took 13
th in the same dive with her score of 221.45.
Powell had a pair of stellar events for UE. She finished fifth in the finals of the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:03.93 before taking 8
th in the 200 breaststroke (2:22.73). Kent recorded an 8
th in the 100 backstroke, checking in at 57.80.
