EVANSVILLE, Ind. – With its spring season started, the Purple Aces golf teams head from Jacksonville, Fla. to Sevierville, Tenn. to take part in the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday.
For the men, play will begin on Monday, the 16th, with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. ET. Day one will feature 36 holes on the River Course and play at a par-72 and 6,928 yards. Play will conclude play on Tuesday, the 17th, beginning with a shotgun start at 10:00 a.m. again on the River Course. The final 18 holes will be played at a par-72 and 6,907 yards.
The field will consist of 15 teams, including: Arkansas State, Carson-Newman, Detroit, Eastern Kentucky, Evansville, Jacksonville State, Longwood, Murray State, Samford, Southern Illinois, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, UT Martin, West Georgia and Wright State.
Women's play will begin on Monday, the 16th, with a shotgun start at 10:00 a.m. ET. Day one will feature 18 holes on the Highlands Course and play at a par-71 and 5,803 yards. Play will conclude play on Tuesday, the 17th, beginning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. again on the Highlands Course. The final 18 holes will feature the same par and distance.
Their field will consist of 10 teams, including: Belmont, Chicago State, Dayton, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, Evansville, Indiana State, Jacksonville State, Murray State, Tennessee Tech.
Will Knights shot a team-low 75 as the University of Evansville men's golf team took fifth place in the Don Benbow Intercollegiate on Tuesday. Knights' round of 75 on Tuesday was the lowest for UE and moved him into a tie for 18th in the final rankings. His first round total was an 81. Leading the way for UE was Tyler Gray. On Tuesday, he carded a 77 to finish in 17th with a 154.
Coming home 21st was Rick Voyvodic. He followed up Monday's 78 with a 79 in the final round. Wil Pahud came in one stroke behind Voyvodic with a 158. He shot an 83 on Tuesday. Rounding out the top five for the Aces was Alex Turner. His final score of 163 tied him for 28th.
MVC Women's Golfer of the Week Kayla Katterhenry finished in fourth place in the Don Benbow Intercollegiate at Jacksonville Beach Golf Club. Katterhenry posted a 79 in each of her two rounds to finish with a 158. Her score was three shots off the win. Cleveland State had a duo tie atop the leadeaboard as Allyson Hackman and Sophie Kelner each notched a 155. Arielle Roberts of Central Michigan took third with a 157.
Cathy Doyle moved up into a tie for 9th place. She followed Monday's round of 81 with the same score of 81 on Tuesday. She came home with the top ten thanks to her 162.
Next up for the Aces was Giulia Mallmann. She had one of her best tournaments at UE, finishing tied for 15th with five other golfers. Mallmann recorded an 82 on Tuesday to finish with a 168. Fourth for Evansville was Maggie Camp. Her final total of 178 tied her for 33rd.
