EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Due to the cancellation of the opening event of the spring, the University of Evansville women's golf team has replaced that with a trip to the Samford Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday.
Action both days begins at 8:30 a.m. with two rounds set for Monday and the final trip around set for Tuesday. Hoover Country Club in Hoover, Ala. Will play host to the event.
A strong field will be playing in the tournament including: Samford, Belmont, Lipscomb, Louisiana Monroe, McNeese State, Ole Miss, West Alabama and West Georgia.
Last week, the Aces' Kayla Katterhenry won the third event of her young career as she took top honors at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate thanks to her performance in a 5-hole playoff.
Katterhenry and Belmont's Katie Story each finished the event with a 145, leading to a playoff. In the fifth playoff hole, Katterhenry fired a par to clinch her third medalist. As a freshman, she won the Saluki Invitational and Bradley Invitational. All three of her victories have come in the spring.
She shot a 72 in Monday's opening round before firing a 73 to finish with a 145. Her clutch performance improved even more as she was victorious in the playoff.
Also recording a top ten finish was Cathy Doyle. Identical rounds of 77 saw her tie for 9th place with a 154. Doyle's effort marked her second-straight tie for 9th place as she did the same at the Don Benbow Intercollegiate two weeks ago.
