MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Evansville baseball team (13-11) utilized an eight-run fourth inning to win 15-11 at UT-Martin on Tuesday night. All nine starters in the UE lineup recorded at least one run batted in as Evansville earned their season-best third win in a row. The 21 Evansville hits are the most for the Purple Aces this season.
Â
"This was a good win for us," said Evansville head coach
Wes Carroll. "You have to feel good about yourself when the team puts 21 hits and 15 runs on the scoreboard. It was great to see our offense come alive, produce, and put together some really good swings."
Â
Down 2-0, UE tied and took the lead in the top of the third. An RBI single from outfielder
Josh Jyawook cut the deficit in half and a double by outfielder
Kevin Kaczmarski evened up the score. An
Eric McKibban RBI groundout later in the inning gave Evansville a 3-2 lead.
Â
Ahead by a run, UE extended their lead by batting around and scoring eight runs in the fourth inning. After the first two batters were retired, Evansville had 11 straight baserunners reach base safely. A base-hit from outfielder
Jarod Perry and a two-RBI single by infielder
Jonathan Ramon made it 6-2 Aces. Then, four straight run producing singles from infielder
Shain Showers, designated hitter
Max Foley, catcher
Travis Tokarek and infielder
Stewart Nelson gave UE an 11-2 edge.
Â
After the Skyhawks plated six runs in the bottom of the inning, Evansville's lead dwindled to 11-8 entering the fifth. Kaczmarski hit another RBI double in the inning and Ramon followed with a two-run home run for the 14-8 advantage. The Aces added a run in the seventh on a solo home run from Showers and withstood two runs in the ninth from UT-Martin for the 15-11 victory.
Â
Kaczmarski set a new career-high in hits with five in the win. With two doubles on the evening, Kaczmarski has tied Anthony Molina (1997-2000) for eighth most in program history (54).
Â
Ramon's four RBIs also set a new career-best. Foley's three hits and Perry's three runs also tied career-highs. Eight UE starters had at least one run scored in the game. Eight Purple Aces starters also recorded at least one hit each in the win as well.
Â
"Hopefully we can carry the momentum and our offense can stay clicking into this big weekend series on the road at Illinois State," added Carroll.
