EVANSVILLE, Ind. –
The University of Evansville baseball team (17-15) swiped a season-high 11 stolen bases in a 13-3 victory over SIUE on Tuesday night. The Purple snapped a season-high three game losing streak and came within two steals of tying the school record for stolen bases in a game (13 vs. Detroit in March 1992).

"We wanted to be aggressive and established early on that we wanted to run," said Evansville head coach Wes Carroll. "It put our hitters in a lot better situations that they capitalized on."

UE started running in the very first inning against SIUE starter Brendan Miller. With one down, outfielder Jarod Perry hit a triple to left field and scored on a wild pitch. Outfielder Josh Jyawook then hit a single to center field, stole two bases and scored on another wild pitch for the 2-0 lead.

The advantage was short-lived though as the Cougars clamored for three runs in the second inning. Facing UE starter Ryan Billo, SIUE tallied four straight hits to begin the inning. An RBI single from Drew Johnson brought the visitors within a run and a Denton Reed run producing double tied the game at two. UE was able to throw out Reed trying to advance to third but a sac fly in the next at-bat from Austin Verschoore made it 3-2.

Trailing by a run, the Aces didn't wait long to re-gain the lead. In the bottom of the inning, Perry hit a two-out single to center field to tie and take the lead 4-3. Evansville then tacked on two more runs in the third and two more in the fourth for an 8-3 edge over SIUE.

Billo used the advantage to his benefit, retiring eight straight hitters in the middle innings.

The Aces were only held scoreless in the fifth inning, adding a run in the sixth, two more in the seventh and another pair of runs in the eighth for the 13-3 victory.

Billo (4-1) earns the win with a season-high 8.0 innings pitched. He allowed just three runs on seven hits while striking out five hitters.

Evansville had all 11 stolen bases in the first six innings of the game. The Aces also capitalized on SIUE committing five wild pitches and two passed balls.

Perry extended his on-base streak to 33 games with a three hit night. He also totaled a career-high tying three RBIs and has hit safely in 9 straight games. First baseman Eric McKibban moved his on-base streak to 20 games as well. Jyawook ended the night 2-for-3 with a career-high matching three runs scored. He has a 10 game hit streak.

UE visits Indiana on Wednesday, April 15. First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m. CDT. The Purple Aces are back at home on Friday, April 17 to open a weekend series with South Alabama. Adult tickets are $7 each as senior/youth tickets are just $5.
