EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville baseball team (21-16) recorded their third straight win with a 9-6 victory over Northern Kentucky (13-24) on Wednesday night. Outfielder
Kevin Kaczmarski tallied three hits for UE with two runs scored, a home run, and two runs batted in. Starting pitcher
Ryan Billo (5-1) yielded just two earned runs in 5.2 innings for the victory.
Â
"It was a crazy midweek game but I thought we got a good pitching performance from Billo," said Evansville head coach
Wes Carroll. "Kevin is not throwing away at bats and staying locked in throughout the entire game. That is why he is being rewarded with the success he is having."
Â
UE broke the scoreless tie in the third with three runs. Outfielder
Josh Jyawook brought the first run in on a bases loaded fielder's choice, Kevin Kaczmarski tacked on another with an RBI double and infielder
Jonathan Ramon rounded out the scoring with a run producing fielder's choice. Ahead 3-0, the Aces added to their lead in the fourth with a sacrifice fly from outfielder
Jarod Perry and another RBI single from Jyawook.
Â
Down 5-0, NKU rallied back with a three-run, fifth inning home run from outfielder Cody Kuzniczci.
Â
Leading by two, UE tallied another pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth on a bases loaded walk from infielder
Stewart Nelson and a Perry single to left field.
Â
Trailing 7-3, the Norse drew a run closer with a Quint Heady single in the sixth. Reliever
Matt Rodgers then entered the game with the bases loaded and two outs. Rodgers induced an infield pop up to second but the ball fell down for a hit, scoring two runs.
Â
Up 7-6, UE inched further ahead with an RBI triple from Ramon in the home half of the sixth. The triple was the fourth in Ramon's career. NKU threatened again in the seventh but Rodgers kept the bases loaded with an inning ending strikeout of Heady.
Â
Kaczmarski added a solo home run in the eighth and closer Brent Jurceka (seventh save) maintained the 9-6 lead in the final inning for the Aces win.
Â
Perry extended his on base streak to 38 games and hit streak to 14. Jyawook also advanced his hitting streak to 15 games. First baseman
Eric McKibban has reached base safely 24 games in a row. Kaczmarski has hit safely in 11 consecutive games. His third inning double gave him 58 in his UE career, now fifth most in program history. Nelson also tied a career-high with three walks.
Â
