PEORIA, Ill. – A successful first day of play at the Bradley Invitational saw both the University of Evansville men's and women's golf teams rank in the top five after the first two rounds of play at WeaverRidge Golf Club.
Both squads played two rounds on Friday and have just 18 more holes to go on Saturday. Action commences with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
Evansville's women were led by Kayla Katterhenry and Cathy Doyle, who each finished the day with a 154. Katterhenry carded rounds of 78 and 76 while Doyle shot the low round of the day for UE – a 73 in round one – before notching an 81 on the second trip around.
Giulia Mallmann had a steady day for UE. Her identical rounds of 82 have her in a tie for 19
th with a 164. Four strokes behind her was Maggie Camp. Her 168 is tied for 27
th. Standing in a tie for 33
rd is Dana Hayden. She registered rounds of 88 and 81 on her way to a 169.
Danielle Lemek of the host Braves leads the individuals with a 148. She notched rounds of 73 and 75 to finish the day two shots ahead of Indiana State's Marissa Uradomo. Bradley's Ally Scaccia is third with a 153 before Evansville's duo of Doyle and Katterhenry are tied for fourth.
The Sycamores lead the team standings by two over the Braves. ISU has a 628 with Bradley checking in at a 630. Loyola is third with a 638 while Evansville is in a steady fourth place at 639.
UE's men rank in fifth place and also took two trips around the course on Friday. Alex Turner notched a 149 to lead the guys. He posted a 72 in round one before registering a 77. He is tied for 12
th. Will Knights completed Friday's action one stroke behind Turner with a 150. He is tied for 14
th after rounds of 76 and 74.
Next up was Tyler Gray. He is alone in 25
th with a score of 155. Finishing with scores of 158 were Wil Pahud and Rick Voyvodic. They are tied for 31
st. Pahud posted two rounds of 79 while Voyvodic began the day with a 71 before finishing round two with an 87. Brett Wolvert finished as the top individual after two rounds. He is tied for 28
th with a score of 157.
Lyle Burns looks to make it a clean sweep of the individual championships for the Braves. Two scores of 69 have him four strokes in front of the pack with a 138. South Dakota's Samuel Matthew is second with a 142. Matthew's round was good enough to put South Dakota in front by four strokes over Bradley. They finished with a 582 with Bradley checking in at 586.
Drake is just one behind the Braves at 587 while Western Illinois (600) and UE (604) complete the top five.
