Aces Drop Last Game of the Series at Wichita State

WICHITA, Kan. – The University of Evansville Purple Aces baseball team (27-22, 8-13) was defeated 10-0 at Wichita State (22-29, 9-9) in the series finale on Sunday afternoon. The Shockers won all three games of the weekend to complete a sweep.

"It started on the mound and our effort wasn't good enough," said UE head coach Wes Carroll. "We gave them a lot with 10 walks and three hit by pitches which led to two big innings"

The game stayed scoreless until the bottom of the third. UE starting pitcher Connor Strain walked the first three batters who all came around to score including two on an RBI single from catcher Bob Arens.

Down 3-0, UE tried to rally back but left a pair of men on base in the fifth and stranded another two in the sixth.

The Shockers then scored five runs in the seventh and another two in the eighth to complete a mercy-rule shortened 10-0 win.

Strain (3-6) took the loss, yielding three runs in 5.0 innings. He also had a season-high tying four walks and a career-high matching seven strikeouts.

Infielder Jonathan Ramon was 2-for-2 with a double and a pair of walks. He extended his hitting streak to 12 games.

Outfielder Jarod Perry was 1-for-4, moving his hit streak to 11 and on-base streak to 50.

Outfielder Kevin Kaczmarski went 0-for-4 as his hitting streak was snapped at 22. His .476 batting average still leads the country.

Infielder Stewart Nelson also tallied two hits.

The next game for UE will be on Tuesday, May 12 at Murray State. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. as the Aces look for their 11th straight mid-week win.

The next Evansville home game is Thursday, May 14 against Austin Peay at 6:00 p.m. Adult tickets are $7 as senior/youth tickets are just $5.
