EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville baseball program is very visible this summer as many Purple Aces are playing professional baseball and collegiate league baseball.
This week, we glance at the latest progress of the pro players and sum up the summer that was for the college student athletes.
Here is our weekly update:
PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL:LHP KYLE FREELANDModesto (COL, A+)Stats: 1-0, 1.13 ERA, 3 GP, 3 GS, 16.0 IP, 18 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 9 K
Notable: Pitched 12.0 innings in the last week, yielding just two runs (one earned)…Threw 7.0 scoreless innings of five-hit baseball in a win against Stockton (Aug. 13).
RHP SAM JOHNSAuburn (WAS, A-)Stats: 1-0, 3.38 ERA, 3 GP, 5.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
Notable: Tossed 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, in his only appearance this last week at Connecticut (Aug. 9)
OF KEVIN KACZMARSKIKingsport (NYM, Rk)Stats: .341 BA, 2 HR, 23 RBIs, 32 R, 63 H, 10 2Bs, 16 BBs, 20 Ks, 14 SB
Notable: On a four game hitting streak (Aug. 10 – 13) with multi-hit games in each contest…Tallied five RBIs in his last three games played.
RHP KYLE LLOYDLake Elsinore (SDP, A+)Stats: 5-9, 4.84 ERA, 27 GP, 16 GS, 113.1 IP, 117 H, 74 R, 61 ER, 31 BB, 114 K
Notable: Made two starts in the last week including an 8.1 inning, one run, seven strikeouts performance against San Jose (Aug. 7).
C KYLE POLLOCKIdaho Falls (KCR, Rk)Stats: .309 BA, 2 HR, 9 RBIs, 10 R, 29 H, 9 2Bs, 1 3B, 9 BBs
Notable: On a four game hitting streak (July 28 – Aug. 10) including multi-hit games in back to back contests.
INF ERIC STAMETSAkron (CLE, AA)Stats: .184 BA, 0 HR, 4 RBIs, 7 R, 7 H, 1 3B, 2 BBs, 2 SB
Notable: Went 2-for-5 with a triple and an RBI at New Hampshire (Aug. 11).
COLLEGIATE SUMMER LEAGUES:RHP RYAN BRADYDodgers (St. Louis Metro League)Stats: 0-2, 6.61 ERA, 7 GP, 1 GS, SV, 16.1 IP, 23 H, 17 R, 12 ER, 10 BB, 20 K
Notable: Took his strikeout per nine inning total from 6.25 in the regular season to 12.08 in summer ball.
RHP NICHOLAS EGGEMEYERHoptown Hoppers (Ohio Valley League)Season: 2-1, 3.81 ERA, 6 G, 6 GS 28.3 IP, 27 H, 23 BB, 17 K
Notable: Lowered his ERA from 6.75 in the college season to 3.81 in summer ball.
RHP BRIAN JESTICENW Indiana Oilmen (Midwest Collegiate League)Stats: 5-1, 2.83 ERA, 9 GP, 9 GS, 54.1 IP, 51 H, 28 R, 22 ER, 31 BB, 40 K
Notable: Ended his season without allowing a run in his final two starts totaling 14.0 innings.

Notable: Threw 8.2 scoreless innings to end his summer ball season.

Notable: Completed the summer on a nine-game hitting streak (July 15 – Aug. 4) including all three playoff games.

Notable: His 18 walks ranked second on the team this summer.

Notable: Team won the Prospects League Championship...Three multi-hit games in his last six contests.

Notable: North All-Star…Led the team in steals and recorded the third highest batting average for Sedalia.

Notable: North All-Star…Team-high in home runs, hits, RBIs and runs scored.
RHP PATRICK SCHNIEDERSAnchorage Glacier Pilots (Alaska League)Stats: 7 GP, 7 GS, 3-0, 3.08 ERA, 35.0 IP, 25 H, 17 R, 12 ER, 18 BB, 35 K
Notable: Averaged a strikeout per inning pitch and totaled a season-high 13 strikeouts in 7.0 innings at the Anchorage Bucs (July 4).

Notable: Recorded four multi-hit games this summer
