LIVE STATS | UE GAME NOTES

EVANSVILLE, Ind. –
The University of Evansville men's soccer team (2-0-0) looks to complete a perfect preseason when they host IUPUI (0-0-1) for an exhibition on Sunday, Aug. 23. The match will be held at Arad McCutchan Stadium and begin at 5:00 p.m. CDT.

After move-in week has begun at UE, this will be the first time that the Purple Aces will be playing in front of their fellow students. All students, fans, family, and friends are encouraged to attend the final match of the preseason.

LENDING A HELPING HAND

Community service is very important for UE men's soccer. The team helped students move in to their dorms this past weekend, hauling items from cars up to their new rooms.  This is just one example of how the Aces are focused on their commitment and work rate for each other, the program, the community, and the University.

THE LAST TIME OUT

Evansville won 3-2 at Mercer in an exhibition on Thurs., Aug. 20. Sophomore midfielder Ian McGrath netted two goals early on, freshman forward Mikey Matic added another and the Aces held on late for the one goal win.

NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT

McGrath's second goal at Mercer from roughly 35 yards out made national headlines, gaining hundreds of retweets and favorites including a mention on NBC Sports.

THE OPPONENT

IUPUI played one match this season, a scoreless draw with UIC. After both coaches agreed to play on, the Jaguars were outscored 3-2 on penalty kicks. IUPUI was 5-8-3 last season including a 2-3-1 mark in the Summit League.

THE COACHES

The Aces have a new head coach this season, Marshall Ray. A former player (1995-'99) at UE, Ray graduated from UE in 2000 and has served on the staff for nine years with the last six as Associate Head Coach.

IUPUI is led by fifth year head coach Isang Jacob (19-40-12)

HISTORY

Evansville is 3-0 in regular season meetings with IUPUI. UE has never allowed a goal to the Jaguars, winning 4-0 in 1998, 1-0 in 2009 and 2-0 in 2011.

CALL FROM THE HALL

UE men's soccer player (1985-'87) Mick Lyon was announced as a 2016 Missouri Valley Conference Hall of Famer in August. He was the 1987 Midwestern Collegiate Conference Player of the Year and a Second Team All-American. Lyon was also the women's soccer head coach (1993-2001), winning nine MVC Championships.

UP FOR THE CHALLENGE

Evansville's schedule features three NCAA Tournament teams from last year (Indiana, Kentucky, St. Louis). The Aces will take on two teams that finished in the final RPI top 25 last season (Indiana 16, St. Louis 22) and seven in the top 100 (Bowling Green 64, Butler 68, Missouri St. 76, Mercer 86, and Lipscomb 97).
