HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -
The University of Evansville men's soccer team (1-3) was defeated 3-1 by #24 Bowling Green State University (5-0) on Friday afternoon. Sophomore midfielder/defender Ian McGrath scored the lone goal for the Aces, his second of the season. UE will now play the host Marshall Thundering Herd on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. CDT in the Veterans Memorial Cup.

"Bowling Green is a mature team and there is a reason they are ranked in the Top 25," said Evansville head men's soccer coach Marshall Ray. "They take advantage of their opportunities and are an efficient goal scoring unit. Tonight, we were unable to concentrate for 90 minutes, and they took advantage of our lapse in concentration. We have to get better at playing for 45 minutes, readjusting and playing for another 45. We will watch video, get prepared for Sunday, and come out and try to do our best against Marshall."

Evansville nearly leapt ahead in the 11th minute but a shot from sophomore forward Desmond Dolphy was saved by BGSU goalkeeper Ryan Hueton. UE also had a 13th minute strike from freshman forward Zac Blaydes that went wide and a 21st minute header by senior forward Mark Anthony Gonzalez that was saved.

Bowling Green broke the scoreless tie on a 31st minute goal from Ryan James and added to the lead with another goal in the 40th minute from Pat Flynn. The Falcons tacked on another goal in the 52nd minute.

Down 3-0, senior defender Vince DiPrimio sent a ball in to McGrath for the header and 83rd minute goal.

On the stat sheet, McGrath has now tied Gonzalez for the team lead in goals (two). Gonzalez totaled a team-high four shots (one on goal). DiPrimio's assist was his first this season. Sophomore goalkeeper Matthew Keller posted four saves in the match.

Evansville will continue the weekend tournament by playing the host Marshall University Thundering Herd on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 1:30 p.m. CDT. UE is back at home on Saturday, Sept. 26 for Homecoming against Drake. The match will begin at 7:00 p.m. CDT at Arad McCutchan Stadium.
