Gray shoots 71 on Monday to pace UE men

BATAVIA, Ohio
– Purple Aces sophomore Tyler Gray had the low round of the day for the University of Evansville men's golf team as they wrapped up the NKU Fall Collegiate Classic at Elks Run Golf Club.
 
Gray fired an even 71 to finish the tournament in a tie for 25th place with a score of 223.  After identical rounds of 76 on Sunday, Gray improved by five strokes in the third round.  Leading the Aces on the overall tournament leaderboard was Rick Voyvodic.  After ranking in the top ten following the first day, the senior shot a 75 in round three to finish with a 218.  He tied for 13th place.
 
Joseph Addante capped off the tournament with a 78.  Coupled with his Sunday scores of 72 and 79, Addante posted a 229 to tie for 39th.  One shot behind him was Will Knights, whose Monday round of 80 gave him a 230 for the event.
 
Following a tough start to the tournament, Wil Pahud had his best round of the classic on Monday, recording a 78 to finish with a 249.  His round was 5 strokes better than his best round of the day on Sunday.  Individual Zac Turi also rebounded in a big way.  On Sunday, he carded scores of 84 and 92, but put it all together on Monday, shooting a 73.  It was the second-best round among the 14 individuals.
 
Morehead State was able to come home with top team honors.  The Eagles combined to shoot a 287 in round three, giving them a final tally of 859.  They won by six shots over Youngstown State with Wright State coming home third.  Northern Kentucky was the biggest mover of the day, tying for the low round of the tournament (283) to jump out two spots into 4th place.
 
Evansville maintained its 8th-place position from Sunday's opening rounds.  The Aces finished the tournament with an 898. 
 
Ryan Wenzler from Wright State was medalist.  In Sunday's second round, he tied the course record with a 7-under 64.  Today, he circled the course with a 2-under 69 to win by six strokes over Morehead State's Logan Hogge.
 
The Butler Invitational is up next for UE as the men travel to Indianapolis on Monday and Tuesday of next week.  The tournament will be played at Highland Country Club.
