EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Another University of Evansville sport will begin competition this weekend as the Purple Aces women's golf team opens its 2015-16 slate at the Redbird Invitational.
Evansville heads to the Weibring Golf Club in Normal, Ill. where they will play two rounds on Sunday before the final 18 holes on Monday. Joining the Aces in the event are: Ball State, Bradley, Boston College, Bowling Green, Butler, Creighton, Drake, Loyola, Northern Illinois, Oakland, Ohio U., Southern Illinois and Western Illinois.
Returning for her senior season with UE is 2-time All-MVC Team member Kayla Katterhenry. She has won a program-record three tournament titles in her first two years. Another junior – Maggie Camp – is coming off of a championship of her own this summer. In July, Camp took top honors in the Evansville Courier & Press Women's City Golf Tournament at Evansville Country Club. The area native was playing in her sixth city tournament.
Sophomore Giulia Mallmann was a consistent performer in her first season at UE. All 25 of her rounds finished in the 80's or lower as she completed the season with an 83.48 stroke average. Rachel Marchi saw action in 15 rounds as a junior in 2014-15, with her season-low 87 coming in the first round of the Indiana State Spring Invite.
Head coach Jim Hamilton has added three freshmen to the mix as Madison Chaney, Maria Pickens and Carly Waggoner begin their collegiate careers. For live scoring during the event, follow BirdieFire.com. Full results will be available on GoPurpleAces.com each day.
