BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – A dominant performance by Indiana pitcher Tara Trainer saw her throw a no-hitter to defeat the University of Evansville softball team by a final of 8-0.
Trainer did not allow a hit in five innings of work. She struck out 13 batters and walked three for the Hoosiers (12-9). Making the start for Evansville (10-6) was Samantha Fleming. In three innings of work, she gave up six runs, three earned, and struck out three. Danielle Freeman pitched the final 1 2/3 frames and gave up two unearned runs.
After a scoreless first inning, the Hoosiers put two on the board in the second before four scored in the third on a Kelsey Dotson grand slam. IU scored the final two in the fifth.
The Purple Aces drew three walks in the game with Ashlee Kawall, Chandra Parr and Morgan Lambert reaching base.
Tomorrow, UE faces Ohio University at 10 a.m. ET before taking on the Hoosiers once again at 12:15 p.m. ET.
