Career highs fell across the board for many of UE's players as they earned their first MVC win of the season, defeating Bradley on Monday evening in five sets. Mildrelis Rodriguez had a season-high 21 kills and also posted 22 digs to lead the way in the victory.
In three matches last weekend, Gabriela dos Santos played well in the starting line-up. Over the course of the 12 sets in three matches, dos Santos notched 41 digs, an average of 3.42 per set. That is a nice increase over her season average of 2.15. She had a career outing versus the Braves, notching a career-high 15 kills.
Evansville notched a total of 28 block assists, translating to 15.0 total team blocks against Bradley on Monday. It was the most this season. In 2016, UE eclipsed that mark on three occasions.
Mildrelis Rodriguez returned to form in three home matches last week, registering 42 kills in 12 sets, an average of 3.5. In the 21 sets prior to the home weekend, she had just 23 total kills. Rodriguez accomplished a rare 20-20 feat as she added 22 digs, matching her career high from 2015.
Rachel Tam set career highs in kills (27) and attempts (79) in the Aces road tilt at Southern Illinois. Her kill total was the most for a UE player since Oct. 24, 2015. Her 79 attempts was second-most for an MVC player this year, just behind Lily Johnson's 88 against Illinois earlier this season. It was also a program record. Tam is 10th in the MVC with 3.01 kills per set.
Loyola has struggled this season and stands at a 1-16 overall record and is 0-6 in conference outings. Gabi Maciagowski paces the Ramblers with 2.77 kills per set while Alex Nunez leads the defense with 3.54 digs per game.
On Saturday, the Aces head to Valparaiso for their first meeting as league rivals. The Crusaders are 9-9 overall and 2-4 in the MVC so far. They are 2-1 in their last three outings, defeating Bradley and Loyola on the road. Taylor Graboski has a team-best 2.95 kills per set while Brittany Anderson has notched a total of 684 assists on the season, an average of 10.36 per frame.
