Aces and Bulldogs meet for in-state showdown

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - After opening Missouri Valley Conference play on Saturday, the University of Evansville men's soccer team returns to non-conference action against in-state foe Butler on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at Arad McCutchan Stadium.

Saturday evening, the Purple Aces began their conference slate with a 1-1 double-overtime draw with Missouri State. Following a Bears' goal in the 50th minute, Evansville answered in the 66th minute on a goal from freshman Davis Peck who finished a cross from junior Simon Waever into the back of the net. Over the final 44 minutes, the Aces' backline held strong as UE continued to push and create chances as neither Evansville or Missouri State could find the game-winner in the 1-1 tie.

The Aces and Bulldogs are meeting for the 28th time in series history with Evansville holding a 14-13 advantage in the 27 previous matches. In last season's contest, Butler captured a 1-0 win in Indianapolis, Ind.. Evansville is looking to snap a four-match winning streak in the series by the Bulldogs with the Aces last earning a win over Butler in a 3-1  home victory on October 1, 2013. Entering the midweek matchup, Butler holds a 2-6-1 overall record and an 0-3 mark in Big East action and heads to Evansville following a 2-0 road loss at St. John's on Saturday. The Bulldog's have played two ranked opponents so far this season, earning a 2-2 double-overtime tie with No. 4 Akron in Butler's season-opener and a 2-0 win over No. 16 Western Michigan on August 30. Offensively, Butler is led by junior Brandon Guhl who has scored five goals and added two assists this season, pushing his career total to 18 goals and seven assists. In goal, the Bulldogs have relied on freshman Gabriel Gjergji, who has played and started in all nine matches for Butler this season, recording 33 saves and holding a 1.89 goals-against average.

On Tuesday evening, the Aces will be celebrating the changes to the NCAA's artificial noise policy. The first 250 fans will receive Evansville "Get On Board" thundersticks to help cheer on the Aces.
