Snow provides Aces with 2-1 win over Drake

10/14/2018 12:14:00 AM

Box Score EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Scoring in the final minutes of the match, the University of Evansville men's soccer team earned a 2-1 win over Drake on Saturday evening at McCutchan Stadium.

"It was a Valley game. They've beaten three top 25 teams this year. I felt like we came out and put them under pressure quite a bit," said Aces' men's soccer head coach Marshall Ray. "We changed up a little bit what we were doing and I think that unbalanced them. We had about seven shots in the first 15 minutes with a goal and one off the cross bar and one off the post. They came back in the second half, they're a good team and we knew that they would, and created some opportunities. We withheld that and it was a great finish for Adam (Snow) and it's good to get him back off the injured reserve list and back on the field, so now we just have to work him back into shape, but great game from Adam when he came on tonight. I thought Logan Muck played really great and then across the backline I thought we did a great job."

The Purple Aces opened the match aggressive offensively, as freshman Ryan Harris saw his shot go high. In the fifth minute, Evansville got on the board early as junior Simon Waever sent in a cross that freshman Logan Muck clipped into the back of the net to give the Aces a 1-0 advantage. Evansville looked to add a second goal as freshman Davis Peck had his shot saved by the Bulldogs in the 11th minute. One of the Aces' best opportunities fo the evening was created in the 22nd minute. After Harris had his shot deflect off the crossbar, junior Ben Weber attempted to tap in the rebound, but Drake made the stop to preserve Evansville's one-goal advantage. The Bulldogs tested Evansville junior goalkeeper Frederik Reimer in the 36th minute as Drake's Ryan Johnston put a shot on-goal that Reimer gathered as the Aces held a 1-0 lead at the halftime break.

Just five minutes into the second half, UE looked poised to score again. Off a corner kick by junior Jesse Stafford-Lacey, sophomore Adam Snow's volley from just inside the box was tipped over the crossbar by the Bulldogs. Following a pair of shots by Peck, Drake answered with a shot of their own. Receiving the ball at his feet, the Bulldogs' Steven Enna dribbled at the top of the box before sending a shot towards goal that slipped into the back of the net to tie the match at one in the 58th minute. Drake would put two more shots on-goal over the next 22 minutes, but once again, Reimer made saves to hold the match at 1-1. After Logan Muck nearly recorded his second goal of the match, the Aces manufactured an opportunity in the final moments of regulation. Waever sprinted down the touch line, past the Bulldogs' backline and looped a ball into the box. Snow found the end of the cross and directed it past the keeper, giving Evansville a lead with what would prove to be the game-winning goal in UE's 2-1 victory.

A trio of freshman in Harris, Muck, and Peck powered the Aces offensively with three shots each as Muck and Snow scored for Evansville with Waever contributing both assists. In goal, Reimer earned his second win of the season, making five saves and allowing one goal in the win.

The Aces wrap-up a three-match homestand by hosting SIUE in a non-conference contest on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at Arad McCutchan Stadium.
