Four Aces earn all-conference honors

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Garnering conference recognition, the University of Evansville men's soccer team had four student-athletes honored with all-Missouri Valley Conference honors, it was announced at the championship awards banquet in Evansville, Ind. on Thursday night.

Freshman Mathias Nors was named freshman of the year and honorable mention all-MVC at the banquet. Nors is the first Ace to earn the freshman of the year award (formerly known as the newcomer of the year award) since Robby Lynch received the honor in 2007 and the fifth Evansville student-athlete to be named the top freshman in the league. The freshman helped anchor the Aces' backline, playing in 16 matches, making 15 starts while scoring twice and adding an assist. Seeing significant minutes on the pitch, Nors finished fourth on the team among non-goalkeepers in minutes played with 1,502 minutes on the field.

Earning first team all-MVC honors, junior defender Simon Waever picked up his third conference honor in as many seasons after being named first team all-MVC in 2017 and honorable mention all-MVC and a member of the all freshman team in 2016. Waever's first team placement marks the sixth-straight season the Aces have landed a student-athlete on the all-conference first team. Finishing the season as the team-leader in assists, Waever tallied seven assists on the season with six coming again MVC competition. This season, Waever played a team-high 1,714 minutes while playing and starting all 19 matches for Evansville.

After capturing honorable mention all-MVC recognition a season ago, junior midfielder Jesse Stafford-Lacey earned second team all-conference honors this season. The junior 
finished tied for the team-high in goals and points with three goals and eight points on the year. On Saturday, Stafford-Lacey recorded the game-winning goal in a 4-3 win over Bradley.

Following a solid junior campaign, junior forward Ben Weber was recognized as honorable mention all-MVC. 
Weber finished the season tied for the team-high in goals with three on the season and points with eight total. Helping power the Aces to a pair of wins, Weber recorded the game-winning golden goal in a 1-0 overtime win over Grand Canyon on Sept. 7 and in Evansville's 1-0 win over Lipscomb on Oct. 9 with the match's lone goal. This season, Weber played 1,497 minutes, the most of any Aces forward.
