IOWA CITY, Iowa – This evening marked the beginning of the 2018 MVC Championship for women's swimming and diving. The event was kicked off by a pair of relays before individual events begin tomorrow.
 
The Aces currently sit in 7^th place, with Missouri State leading the pack.
 
"It was a night to remember," said head coach Rickey Perkins. "I think we were a little hesitant, maybe a little nervous. Our expectations were maybe a little high, and we were a little tight. But overall it was good. We looked great in warmup. I'm excited about the individual events starting tomorrow; it will be a great day."
 
The Aces started the competition with the 200 Medley Relay. Junior Sam Gowdy, sophomore Alaina Sylvester, junior Kristen Myers, and senior Danielle Freeman took to the pool to clock in a 1:44.12, finishing in 7^th place. In the B Relay, junior Kaylee Gubricky recorded a season best time with her freestyle split of 23.92. In the D Relay, freshman Danielle Baugh earned a season best as well, with a backstroke split of 29.50.
 
The 800 Freestyle Relay came next. Junior Madi Jones, senior Jessi Hildebrand, freshman Andrea Ramis, and sophomore Kristy Kupfer finished in 7^th place as well with a final time of 7:49.89.
 
Tomorrow morning's preliminary session will begin at 11 a.m. Central Time, consisting of the 500 freestyle, the 200 IM, and the 50 freestyle.
