EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The University of Evansville women's golf team opened the Indiana State Spring Invitational in eighth after the first round at Country Club of Terre Haute in Terre Haute, Ind.
Evansville carded a team score of 323 in the opening round, placing the Purple Aces in eighth in the 10 team field. Host Indiana State holds the tournament lead after the first round after recording a 301 on Sunday.
After closing the Arkansas Little Rock Invitational by tying her best round of the spring with a 77, Madison Chaney continued her strong form with a 78 to open the ISU Spring Invitational. Chaney led the Aces in the opening round, earning herself a share of 13th after the first day.
A pair of freshmen in Minka Gill and Sophia Rohleder followed Chaney after the first round. Both Gill and Rohleder tallied opening-round 81s to place the duo in a tie for 33rd.Â
In a tie for 41st after the first round is senior Giulia Mallmann. Mallmann carded her best opening-round of the spring and her second-best round in the spring with an 83 in the first round. Just three strokes behinc Mallmann was Lexie Sollman who sits in a tie for 50th after the first-round after recording an 86 on Sunday.
The Aces excelled on the par 3s on Sunday as Evansville tallied the second-lowest stroke average on par 3s with a 3.20 stroke average on the opening day just behind host Indiana State.
Evansville takes to the course on Tuesday for the final day of competition in the Indiana State Spring Invitational.
