OLD HICKORY, Tenn. - The University of Evansville men's golf team opened the Big Blue Intercollegiate in fifth after the first day at The President's Reserve at Hermitage Golf Course in Old Hickory, Tenn.
The Purple Aces recorded their fifth-best opening round of the season with a first-round 296 at the intercollegiate before improving on their first round score with a 291 in the second round to close out the opening day. Leading the tournament after the first round is UT Martin , who tallied a pair of 287s to lead the way.
Senior Tyler Gray continued his impressive spring for the Purple Aces. Gray opened the intercollegiate with a two-over 73 before closing out the day with one-over 72 for a two-round total of 145 placing Gray in a tie for 10th.
After carding a 75 in the first round, Noah Reese responded with an even par 71 to give him a first-day total of 146, putting him in a tie for 16th just a stroke back of Gray.
Following Reese was Spencer Wagner who tallied a 148 (73 - 75) to place freshman in a tie for 20th after the opening day. Two strokes back of Wagner was Cameron Weyer who recorded back-to-back 75s to place him in a tie for 23rd.
A pair of Aces competing as individuals finished the first day within a stroke of one another. Jessie Brumley opened the tournament with a 76 before following with another 76 in the second round for a total of 152. Gabe Rohleder began the intercollegiate with a four-over 75 before closing the opening day with an 80 for a two-round total of 155.
After carding an 82 in the first round on Monday, Matthew Ladd answered with a two-over 73 to push the sophomore into a tie for 48th with a total of 155.
The final Ace competing as an individual was Robert Waggoner, who finished the first day with a total of 161 (84 - 77) placing Waggoner in a tie for 62nd.
Evansville concludes the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate with the final day of competition on Tuesday.
