Box Score OXFORD, Ohio - Despite getting off to a quick start, the University of Evansville women's soccer team dropped a road match to Miami (Ohio), 2-1, on Sunday in Oxford, Ohio.

Evansville used momentum gained in the Purple Aces' 3-0 victory on Friday night over Tennessee Tech to propel itself early on. Just 1:53 into the match, UE got on the scoreboard as senior Montana Portenier capitalized on a RedHawk mistake and scored her second goal of the season.

In the following 43 minutes of the opening half, Miami held an 8-2 advantage on shots, but Evansville was able to hold Miami at bay and take a one-goal advantage into the half.

The RedHawks opened the second half on the offensive, tying the match at a goal each in the 51st minute as Lydia Bosnahan headed in the ball off a corner by Jordan King. Less than a minute later, Miami found its go-ahead goal as Kristina Demarco headed home a ball that was put into the box by Soph Spinell.

The Aces were the aggressors for much of the second 45 minutes as UE out-shot Miami, 10-6, but Evansville could not find its equalizer late in the match as the RedHawks picked up the 2-1 win.

Portenier powered the Aces, tying a career-high with six shots, putting three on-goal, and scoring her 13th career goal. Between the posts, sophomore goalkeeper Michaela Till made three saves in 90 minutes of action, allowing a pair of goals.

Up next for Evansville is a trip north to Indianapolis for two matches, beginning with a matchup with Butler at 6 p.m. (CT) on Thursday night before taking on IUPUI at Noon (CT) on Sunday.
