Aces men’s soccer heads to Des Moines for conference matchup

EVANSVILLE – Heading on the road, the University of Evansville men's soccer team travels to Des Moines, Iowa to face Drake at 6 PM on Wednesday evening.

Last Match: No. 17 Missouri State 4, Evansville 0
  • Early on in the match, Missouri State was awarded a penalty kick and Bears' leading goal scorer Josh Dolling stepped up to take the pK.
  • Dolling's 13th minute PK missed high over the crossbar as the Aces avoided an early deficit.
  • Four minutes later, the Bears were awarded another penalty and Matthew Bentley delivered the go-ahead goal for Missouri State.
  • In the 20th minute, Missouri State pushed its lead to two on a second goal by Bentley who tapped home a cross by Ian Jones. As the half entered the final 10 minutes, the Bears scored two goals again in quick succession as Kyle Hiebert headed one home and Stuart Wilkin found thw back of the net both in the 39th minute.
  • Evansville forced a couple of defensive actions upon Missouri State early in the second half as junior Francesco Brunetti had his shot blocked and senior Ben Weber had his attempt saved by Bears' goalkeeper Michael Creek.
  • In all Creek was forced to make four saves, the most the redshirt junior has been tasked with saving in any match this season.
  • The Aces looked to draw one back in the final minutes as sophomore Ryan Harris recorded a shot that goalkeeper Gage Steiner saved to preserve the 4-0 win for Missouri State.
  • The Aces bounced back from a 13-3 deficit in shots in the first half to out-shoot the Bears, 9-6, in the second half, while also earning four corner kicks to three for Missouri State.

Previewing the Matchup
  • Evansville and Drake are meeting for the 34th time in the series history with the Bulldogs holding a narrow 16-15-2 advantage in the series.
  • The Aces captured the last meeting between the two sides as Evansville earned a late winner in a 2-1 victory.
  • The last time the two sides met in Des Moines, Evansville captured a 1-0 win on Oct. 21, 2017.
  • Evansville has seen success on the road at Des Moines, winning the last three rosad matches against the Bulldogs in Iowa, last losing in Des Moines to Drake on Oct. 10, 2009 in a 1-0 loss to then 22nd ranked Drake.
  • The first meting between Evansville and Drake came on Ot. 1, 1989 when the Aces picked up a 2-0 home win over the Bulldogs.
  • Drake enters Wednesday's matchup with a 5-5 overall record and a 2-2 mark in the MVC. The Bulldogs have lost back-to-bac matches, falling at Bradley, 1-0, and losing at home to Loyola, 2-1.
  • Leroy Enzugusi powers the attack for Drake as the junior has four of the Bulldogs' 12 goals on the year.
  • In goal, redshirt sophomore Luke Anderson has played every minute for Drake, amassing a 1.47 goals-against average with four shutouts and 23 saves.
