Evansville closes regular season Saturday at Bradley

EVANSVILLE – Finishing up the regular season, the University of Evansville men's soccer team travels to face Bradley on Saturday in a 2 PM showdown in Peoria, Ill.

Last Match: Valparaiso 1, Evansville 0
  • The Aces and Crusaders each had plenty of opportunities in the first half as the two sides combined for 13 shots in the opening 45 minutes.
  • Redshirt freshman Jakub Hall and freshman Ethan Garvey each had shots that were blocked in the opening 15 minutes.
  • Junior Filip Johansson put a shot on-frame for the Aces in the 20th minute, but Johansson's attempt was saved by Valpo.
  • Johansson against forced a save from Crusader goalkeeper Jorn-Jan van de Beld to open the second half, but it was Valpo who were the aggressors early in the second half.
  • The Crusaders recorded three of the first four shots in the second period, but none came on-target.
  • Valpo found its breakthrough with less than 10 minutes left in regulation as Ryan Madondo dribbled into the clear and finished past senior Frederik Reimer.
  • The Aces had a chance inside the final 30 seconds, but could not convert in the 1-0 loss to Valparaiso.
  • In the match, the Aces were out-shot, 18-8, as the Crusaders owned a 6-3 advantage on shots on-goal.
Previewing the Matchup
  • Evansville and Bradley are meeting for the 31st time in the series history with the Braves holding a 17-11-2 advantage in the series.
  • The Aces have won three of the last four matchups between the two sides.
  • Last meeting in Peoria in the final regular season match of 2018, Evansville earned a thrilling 4-3 road victory over Bradley on Nov. 3. Jesse Stafford-Lacey provided the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in the 90th minute that earned an MVC Championship spot for the Aces.
  • Bradley comes into Saturday's season finale with a 6-6-4 overall record and a 4-3-2 mark in MVC competition. The Braves currently sit third in the MVC men's soccer standings with 12 points.
  • Gerit Wintermeyer has powered the Braves' attack this season, scoring five of the team's 12 goals this year, while adding an assist.
  • Between the posts, Nathan Wisbey has seen much of the action for Bradley, recording seven shutouts, while amassing a 0.94 goals-against average in 15 appearances this season.
