Game Notes

SETTING THE SCENE:  •The Purple Aces are coming off a tough midweek 5-4 loss to top-ranked Vanderbilt. Before that, UE earned its first victory of the season, avoiding a sweep at the hands of Mercer with a 7-2 win this past Sunday.

THE OPPOSITION:  • Little Rock has yet to win this season, a product of a rugged opening schedule, dropping a trio of slugfests to a quality Creighton squad, then falling to Oklahoma State in a rain-shortened midweek series.

THE PITCHING MATCHUP:  •  The Aces will open the series with junior right-hander Adam Lukas taking the hill in Sunday's game 1 of a doubleheader. Lukas was a tough luck loser on opening night against Mercer, as a shaky start led to him taking the "L" in a 5-4 decision. Little Rock will start junior southpaw Chandler Fidel, who took the loss in a 10-8 season opening defeat.

Game two of Sunday's doubleheader will see junior left-hander Nathan Croner get his second start of the season. Lukas' former bullpen mate was sunk by a second inning Mercer uprising, one his way to taking the loss in a 7-6 decision. The Trojans will counter with junior right-hander Jose Torres, who took the loss in Little Rock's 13-8 setback.

Head coach Wes Carroll has yet to name a starting pitcher from Monday's series finale. Little Rock will send out right-hander Pablo Ortiz, who struck out six, while getting a no-decision in a 12-10 extra inning loss to Creighton.

ALL-TIME SERIES:  • Evansville leads the all-time series with Little Rock 5-3. The Aces took two of three games the last time they met up with the Trojans February 15-17.
