EVANSVILLE, Ind. - After a regular season of exponential growth both in competition and roster size, the University of Evansville track and field team travels to Cedar Falls, Iowa for the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships this weekend.

Head coach Don Walters brings a squad to the Hawkeye State that has more than doubled in size from it's return to competition a year ago, going from 27 athletes to one that features 65 competitors.

This indoor season has seen program records being set, then broken on a weekly basis in both the running and throwing events. Most recently at the Eastern Illinois University Friday Night Special.

* Freshman Michael Boots bested senior teammate Ryan Freeman's school mark in the weight throw, with a distance of 12.79 meters

* Sophomore runner Anna Lowry shattered her own school record in the mile by nearly 17 seconds, with a time of 5:10:90

*  Nikki Hutchcraft shattering her personal and program record in the 60 meter dash.

*  Monica Watkins lowering her program record in the 200 met.

*   Freshman Taiza Alexander broke her own program mark in the long jump.

*   Brittany Corley, who shattered her own program record in weight throw with a toss of 11.78 meters, four feet farther than she had thrown earlier this season.

*   Brendon Smith broke the men's 400 meter program mark.

Another impressive performance came from junior Stanley Chepchieng, who broke the 14 meter mark in the triple jump for the first time this season at the EIU Friday Night Special. Chepchieng has won three of the four triple jump events he's competed in this weekend.

The MVC Championships begin Friday and continue through Saturday.
