COLUMBIA, Mo. - On the final day of competition, the University of Evansville women's swimming and diving team competed to improve its finishing position at the 2019 MVC Championships in Columbia, Mo.
Entering the day 3.5 points behind Little Rock for sixth-place, the Aces made their push on the final day. The Aces held a 3.5 advantage heading into the final event of the championships, the 400 yard freestyle relay. In the 400 yard freestyle relay, the Trojans swam to a third-place finish, while Evansville finished in seventh-place as Little Rock moved in front in the final event.
The Aces earned a seventh-place finish at the championships, holding a 154-point advantage over eighth-place finishing Valparaiso. After an impressive championships, freshman Fae Keighley was honored as freshman diver of the year, advancing to the A finals in both 1 meter and 3 meter diving competitions.
Four Aces earned honorable mention all-conference honors at the championship as Keighley, Kristen Myers, Kara Steward, and Maggie Franz earned the honor.
The last day of action got started with the 1,650 yard freestyle as the Aces earned four important points. Finishing in 13th, Ashton Adams secured the four points for Evansville with a time of 17:39.54, while Megan Schremp tallied a 22nd-place finish in a time of 17:58.62.
In the 200 yard backstroke, a pair of Aces competed in the C final. Recording a win in the C final, Samantha Gowdy finished in 17th with a time of 2:04.90, while Kristy Kupfer swam to a 20th-place finsh in a time of 2:06.97.

Seven points came to Evansville via the 100 yard freestyle. In the B final, Jessie Steele tallied six points with an 11th-place finish and Emma Hennessy gathered another point for the Aces, finishing in 16th.
Adding a point for the Aces in the 200 yard breaststroke, Alaina Sylvester captured a 16th-place finish in a time of 2:29.20. Three more Aces swam in the C final of the 200 yard breaststroke as Amy Smith (2:29.57), Shaina Weisberg (2:31.94), and Sylvia McFadden (2:32.90) finished in 19th, 22nd, and 23rd, respectively.
The strongest event of the championship for the Aces came in the 200 yard butterfly. Earning top eight finishes, Kristen Myers and Kara Steward combined to earn 25 points for Evansville with fifth and eighth-place finishes, respectively. Also competing in the 200 yard butterfly, Nicolette Wickes tallied an 18th-place finish in a time of 2:15.05.
In the 3 meter diving competition, the Aces were led by Maggie Franz and Fae Keighley as Evansville was the only team at the championship to score four divers in the event. Franz earned top-billing for Evansville, finishing in fourth in the event, setting a new PR with a score of 242.00. For the second time at the championships, Keighley reached the A final, finishing in eighth with a score of 2:36.50. Also competing in the 3 meter dive for Evansville, Natalie Gerard recorded a 14th-place finish with a score of 204.05 and Sarah Kempf finished in 16th, amassing a score of 188.55.
Closing the championships, the Aces took to the pool for the 400 yard freestyle relay. Evansville earned a seventh-place finish in the relay as Myers, Steele, Kaylee Gubricky and Hennessy finished in a time of 3:32.79.
