EVANSVILLE, Ind. - After three months away from competition, the University of Evansville men's soccer team and head coach Marshal Ray have announced their 2019 spring schedule.
"We have a strong core of returners this spring and have added two players in January who have lifted the level of our group. We are excited to get back on the field in early March against a Lipscomb team who made a deep run in last season's NCAA tournament. It will be a good test on the road for us. Following spring break, we have a great stretch of matches at home concluding with the Mayor's Cup. While our main focus in the spring is always on the individual, it is important we reestablish the identity of our group on and off the field as we prepare for our August training camp."
Featuring five contests, the Aces will see significant time at Arad McCutchan Stadium with four games being played on Evansville's home ground.
Before Evansville's spring season begins, Arad McCutchan Stadium will again host a match featuring a pair of professional sides. For the fourth-straight year, Evansville will host two professional teams for a preseason friendly as Indy Eleven and Nashville SC of the USL head to Evansville on March 2 for what will be both teams' final preseason matchup.Â
The Aces' spring slate opens on the road on March 2 as Evansville travels to face 2018 NCAA Tournament qualifier Lipscomb in Nashville, Tenn. Returning home to start a string of four-straight home matches, the Aces face Bellarmine on March 23, a team UE met in an exhibition during the 2018 preseason. Two other teams that appeared on the Aces' 2018 schedule will head to Arad McCutchan Stadium for a spring match. On April 2, SIUE will make its way to McCutchan Stadium for a spring rematch of a fall contest that saw the Aces and the Cougars battle to a scoreless draw. Evansville welcomes in Eastern Illinois on April 6, a team the Aces saw early during the 2018 regular season and earned a 1-1 draw on the road with.
Closing out the 2019 spring season, Evansville and crosstown foe USI will meet at Arad McCutchan Stadium for the 2019 Mayor's Cup. In the last year's addition of the annual meeting, the two teams came together to raise $2,100 for the YMCA of Southwestern Indiana. The donation marked the second-straight season that the Aces and Screaming Eagles joined forces to raise over $2,000.
